This space is meant to be less about the what, more about the how.
How did you/they make that?
How do other companies organize files and maintain teams?Β
How do I learn Figma?
How do I switch from Sketch/Invision/XD?
How do I get into the UX field?
Learning a tool as powerful and complex as Figma is not accomplished by those single interactions, it's learned by having a community full of people learning together, sharing cool things they made, and asking "but how??"
How is this different from the Friends of Figma Slack?
Slack is a constant stream of information with no real way to look back and see what's happened. This community is an attempt to share tutorials and work together to learn the best parts of Figma, and not get lost in the long threads.
So this is just another community?
Yeah, I mean thereβs a lot of overlap with other spaces, to be sure. I started this because of the interactions Iβve had with others who are learning Figma and design in general. Dumping people into a Slack channel or Reddit just seems so impersonal. This is a place for conversations and questions to happen so others can benefit from it.
What content will be here?
For starters, I'll be hosting a weekly Figtut Friday session. Every week, we'll be making something fun in Figma. We might be trying out a new feature, a new plugin, or just recreating a particularly cool piece of UI together. They'll be recorded just in case you miss it.
Can I add content?
Yes!
Is this just for newbies? Not at all. My initial idea for this was actually so that I could talk to other designers maintaining design systems at large orgs, but people new to the field are also looking to learn. There's a lot more content out there for new people than there is for advanced people, so I want to make this space lean towards the latter. ο»Ώο»Ώ Over time, more content types will be added or we'll fade into obscurity. My hope is that this helps people learn more from one another and also build some small level of community.
